i can't believe using strategy gets you banned. how is making a colony in a certain spot farming? wow is all i have to say.

Using slave colonies is not a strategy.

They used two... one was kicked immediately, the other was used only as a shieldable OP.

Yeah, its not a bannable offence. Every ingame move if intepreted as bannable and if the only way to fight is to use huge number of squads then this game is pointless. Need I remind people that this is a strategy game? You can call it a slave colony or whatever if you want. That is still not an offence. Ilona pressed a couple of buttons ingame to achieve a desired result. Its playing the game for all I know.

Obviously it was bannable, since he was banned. There are clear rules against using slave colonies.

Just because someone is banned, doesnt mean the ban is valid. Slave colonies are your way of referring to them. Id call it strategy. And if there are rules that exist prohibiting strategy, then those are rules that infringe upon your freedom to use options ingame and need to be changed.

It was bannable because the colony was made for no other reason than to be a gate at an opportune time, and was one of 3 slaves made for this reason. These 2 were made at the same exact time for the same exact purpose.
The first slave was used for this, promptly booted and then conquered by the alliance which benefitted from it. Had I not intervened at this case, I think that the second would have eventually found a similar fate. This may or may not have been the case, as now that it has resulted in bans, all kinds of arguments about 'what could have been' are being presented.
This is a rather suprising argument to have, as it has been my experience that players demand immediate response to scenarios where spam colonies and slave colonies are dropped near their hives. The hardest part in these instances is usually proving who the slave masters are, as they usually try their best to remain anonymous. This was attempted in a way, by quickly booting and conquering the first gate slave once it had served its purpose, but I happened to be online to notice it.
Upon noticing this, I consulted Avi personally to express my concerns, and then had to unblock Kane from skype so I could also gather some intel from the other side of the story (attempting to be impartial in my policing of the situation), since my inbox was already beginning to light up with reports of the same issue from members of his alliance as well.
Let me be clear, nothing about deciding what to do in this scenario was easy for me. I understand why NO did what they did, and in a way even sympathize. I also recognize the impact that my actions have on the turnout of the era. To be honest the whole thing stinks for me. I do not like banning people, and it was absolutely no fun to be put in the position to have to have made a decision on this, especially in light of the fact that it apparently ended the era. I even made it clear to both Avi and Kane personally, that it totally sucked to be in the middle of it, and I was not enjoying the decisions I was being forced to make.
I really wish it would not have happened, and that NO took a different route to acheiving their goals. One preferably, legal.
Rest assured that mechanical changes will be implimented as soon as possible to prevent this from being exploited again.
