Here's my view, the one from a new player.

The game is somewhat hard to understand when you start out. The tutorial etc help a lot, and the forum too. But there are a lot of people that don't look on the forums for alliances.

Starting recourses aren't that high, and even when taking down the starting defense it's hard to come around for a newbie. I've played a bit in 6 different worlds now, and in 5 I've been conquered 3 or 4 ticks after giving up protection.

The problem is that inexperienced players don't know what to expect. One enemy used a portal. Another used a training base near me. How should I know what those things are for?!

And at first I thought that being conquered was the end of the game. After browsing the forums I found out it's not, but waiting for 72 ticks is long. And I don't have the resources to build a decent army, so I don't know if I even succeed.

My first time playing ever, I was conquered. (E4 The age before ByE4). I was conquered for about 700 ticks, by a guy in KoG. I just built up day by day and I was able to rebel in peace. You don't necessarily fight your conqueror to be free. When you take your time and build up an army decent enough you can join a top alliance, now you can rebel in peace. That's what I did...I still have rough starts...and get conquered. I am still a noob, but even being conquered for 700+ ticks, I am able to get rank 20~25 on my first time playing, you can to. So being conquered isn't the end and they should understand that...

The only time that it's the end is when you give up on yourself.

I like the message to persuade newbies that conquering isn't anything bad. The message that we get now is to rebel, but if a newbie doesn't successfully rebel, they might quit then.

I don't see a message about being conquered useful at all. People are probably going to ignore it anyways...

Sure it is a pain being conquered but as the conqueror you can do a lot to keep people involved. A lot of times you can spot the colonies that will delete, you know the ones, they sit for 100 ticks and when protection drops they still have 0 power....
There are also the obvious new players that have a very weak army. It's easy enough to send a note to some players you think are new to try and help them out of it.

If a conquer of mine starts rebelling empty I normally quell and send a message telling them to build an army and then I'll liberate. It's useless for both parties to rebel a lot of times. For one, the conquer loses resources for the period and the conqueror has to send troops to quell. A simple note usually suffices, I set the bar ~50 tanks which is more often than not something I'd leave rather than trying to quell. The conquers that actually build then rebel are obviously doing fine, they know what they need to do.

Most often being conquered is a good chance to relax as a player. Not much worse can happen so it's a nice way to build up without worrying too much about how your colony is doing. New players just need to know this so like I said, send a note to those players who seem like they are new and offer some help.... it'd probably do a lot more than a notice saying 'you will be conquered'

That just seems to hostile and is already setting them up for defeat.
