So, out of pure curiosity, I decided to stock up on items to see how much you could store in the game. I eventually kept my Kits section untouched. I noticed that around 3,000-4,000 Items, it pauses loading for workshop, fusion. This is probably due the fact that the game scrolls from the bottom of the list when loading the section. I took my inventory up to 8,000 before painfully fusing everything to stop the long loadings after clicking an item in. Basically, every time you scroll the items, it lags.
The lesson is: Frequently fuse your items away.
