Not unless you coordinate with teammates very well (but then they'll probably get pissed for the heavy armor losses due to you not taking much of a hit). But still definitely more dependable than armor in a battle. I try not to fall too much into the building range only category. If I have to rebuild, I usually start building armor again after hitting 10 squads worth of pure range. Otherwise, it'll take to long to get back on your feet.

well malice 1. i was inactive for 70 ticks straight so con grates. 2. you only did so well because of all the nukes hitting and me sitting in radiation. Assuming none of the nukes hit probably would have at least gotten to some of your damage if not maybe some of your range

Actually, if there was no nuke, I would have died without breaking your armor (the huge amount that there was). In fact, only would have killed about 1000 of them. But with that being said, if your army wasn't hit by a nuke, I wouldn't have taken the battle in the first place.
