How would that be any difference if there was a cap? Really, I am just confused. A cap of 35 could still allow a person to play at level 32 or below. And if the matchmaking range is level 31 and the player chooses a level 32, that is their choice, just as it would be if the cap was 35 and they choose to play at 31.

I'll try to explain matchmaking range and lvl cap differences again.

Matchmaking range
Example: When opponent chooses to use his lvl31 mech, then that means his matchmaking range is 27-35. It also means that his opponent can use mech in range of 27-35. (Not very fair if opponent chooses to use higer lvl mech against him, but in this case who would use lower lvl mech?)

Level cap
Example: When opponent chooses to use his lvl31 mech, then that means his opponent can't use a mech that is lvl32 or above. In level cap, opponent can use mech in range of 1-31. (This way, both mechs can be evenly matched and there's no chance that opponent will use higer lvl mech.)

Did this cleared things up a bit?

At matchmaking level 31, no one needs to play at level 31 (there is no strategic incentive to play below level 33, but if someone does chose to, there is technically nothing stopping them). At cap 31 no one needs to play at level 21 (but if someone does chose to play 10 or more levels below 31, there is technically nothing stopping them). This argument is futile. There may be a semantical difference here, but these two systems functionally allow the same strategic differences, the only possible issue would a user's error, not a design error (like if the matchmaking range is 31, and someone plays below level 33; this would be a user error, just as playing at 21 when the cap is 31). The only functional difference between a cap and a range is that a range would allow all mechs to be capable of being used in battle, and a cap would allow for battles to at least exclude levels 23, if not 22, and 21 depending on how low the cap is.

Aeacus, I recognize a player could unwittingly choose a level in a matchmaking level that is not in their best interest, but this is just as possible with a cap. This is part of the strategy of the game. If a cap is level 25, and one player is 24 and the other is 25, who do you think has the advantage in the fight? This could be just as damaging to careless fighters as matchmaking range of 30, 31, or 32; but as I stated in the above paragraph, there is really no functional difference between a range and a cap, just a semantical difference.

I understood what you were saying since the first time you explained what you saw as the difference between a cap and a range — there was no reason for the condescension. The bottom line I am making in all of this is that there is no strategic difference between a cap and a matchmaking range, with the exception of caps below level 23. Otherwise, if caps below level 23 were banned, then I would be just as in favor of a cap as I would a range. However, if everyone thinks I should have a level 20, 21, and 22 mech, then it looks like I am going to go against what is considered polite practice and I am going to start farming newbs again!

Note: I won't be in this tournament....

I think the rules need to be expanded to include other things.

Examples...

1.) What if their is a sever crash in the middle of the match?

2.) What will happen if a players disconnected? Will it count as a loss to that player?

3.) What will happen if a players turn gets skipped?

4.) What will happen if both players can't battle each other?

5.) What will happen if a player can't fight in the other battles? ( They were able to complete a battle or 2, but there is an issues going on preventing a 3rd battle from happening.)

6.) How long will it take ( estimation ) for a player to get their prize?

7.) Are there going to be any items that won't be usable in this tournament? If so, why?

8.) What will happen if an opponent cheats? ( Of course, they will not get the prize, but stating this in the OP will make that an official rule and not an unspoken rule....)

9.) What if an opponent is caught cheating, but it is not notice until late in the tournament?
Sorry for all the questions, but I think these should be addressed.
Anyways, I think there may be some issues with this tournament, but as other have said this is the first one, so there will probably be some issues.

1. if the server crashes you redo the battle..
2. if you disconnect I'll have to look into it a bit.. etc..
3. make sure you are in a good place where you'll most likely your turn won't be skipped cause you'll have to deal with turn losses as best you can..
4. then they both forfeit.. doubt that'll happen though..
5. if it's not over it's not over.. idk how else to put it...
6. not super long.. but may take a little while..
7. everything is fair game as long as it's not over a level cap
8. if they cheat they forfeit.. and you'll have me trying to get them in trouble ;)
9. it's your job as well to make sure your opponent is not cheating... I can only do so much with how the game currently works.. if you want to make sure on things.. youtube record the game etc..

Great!!! Good luck everyone!!!

EDIT:

2 Questions:

1. So between those 2 who picks level cap first? You PMed them about this or did I miss something?

2. We have to wait for this couple to finish their battles before we know all the couples of the next round, right?

About matchmaking cap,
if the person who is able to choose matchmaking cap happens to be higher level than his/hers opponent then how is regulated that he/she doesn't pick the matchmaking cap above his opponent's player level?

For example:
If i'm matched up against (let's say) lvl42 player and if i choose matchmaking cap to be lvl70, then is this allowed or do i have to pick matchmaking cap that is below his/hers player level?
(Basically, Antares alone can win a battle for me if the opponent's player level is below lvl50.)

Edit: In the 1st post, after the player matchmaking picture (who battles who), there's a line written: "you guys got a week".
My question is, does that 1 week apply to everyone who is in this tournament or does it apply only to the first two (jonesm & goldeneyereloaded)?
