What do you guys think about the new heat shields?

My opinion is that they are useless because they deactivate when your engine shuts down a single time.
You cannot afford to constantly reactivate it because this will happen almost every game turn.

I only see them to be usefull for very specialized torsos such as "Ruby", "Flame power" and "Fire Guardian" since they have enough heat to keep the shields up for tsome time and then reduce your heat in a single swipe with a cooldown pack.

i also find those useless, if you fire heat based weap is also makes your heat grow faster, so....i dont use heat shield..

Still I got your idea and made the shields more efficient

not at all:
won't forget to heat only generating and not recharge it like energy in every round end and when you are overheated you loose a move too (at least) for cool
thats why so easy to kill who are use heat shield atm

i dont think this will be used. to me its useless and undesirable. so it shouldnt be used.

Maybe with active heat shield your mech consider every damage as explosive damage.
You need only exp. resist, and NRG discharge also converted to heat.

I think the new ratio makes it a lot better but when someone puts one up it just means I am going to get them hotter quicker.

when I saw heat shield I thought it was going to be:

XX% of heat absorbed
1 energy required to block 1 point of heat
auto deactivates when energy is depleted

Even assuming this would only apply to heat caused by you opponent this would be much more useful and help to alleviate the fact that heat generating weapons are overpowered.

I think the heat shields are a reasonable addition to the game, as they are giving heat mechanic based mechs also a way of percentile reduction of damage.

Yet, I see the problem of effectively balancing them to a point, where they become usable without being overpowered.

Some suggestions:
- The damage to heat ratio should be around 2:1 or 3:1.
- The shield should automatically reactivate, if the heat falls below a certain level (maybe 25% of the mechs total)
- When the shield is active, engine shutdown also uses some energy to further decrease heat.

In the current state, the heat shield makes the mech to fragile, with its heat management
