@aister: how so? They aren't inhaling it. Drinking can harm other people too. But prohibition was a failure. Plus, the tax revenue from Tobacco products is just too large to negate.
actually yes they can.
First, if you smoke, non-smokers near you will be annoyed.
But more importantly, passive smoking also bring sickness (and deadly sickness). The smoke that smoker exhaled still contains dangerous compounds. And the people around you, want it or not, will inhale that smoke.
The ban on public smoking was there for a reason.
More dangerous, smoking near a pregnant woman or baby may cause serious sickness or even death to the baby AND the mother.
But I agree that the tax from tobacco is too large to ban tobacco, the same with beer and wine. Wat we can do is to limit their usage, banning the drunk driving and the public smoke, then see those laws to be ignored.

Well, that's totally fine. I'm talking about the kind of people that get drunk at night and think that driving home after shoving 8 cans of beer down their throat is ok.
they don't think that driving home when drunk is ok. They are well aware that it's dangerous. But they still do it because simply they don't think they're drunk. Or maybe their mind doesn't work anymore.
