Too much music is shallow, poinless jibberish these days. Gone are the days when music with a message ruled the day.
I agree Seth. Too much of shallow music these days. Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Rebecca black and such.
Though I would have to disagree, when it comes to content actually influencing a person to like the music. For example, I dont like popular radio friendly music generally, but I do enjoy certain pop songs and bands like The Corrs for example. To me, lyrical content doesnt matter one bit, simply because I wont understand lyrics - its like I am incapable. I listen to music simply to enjoy music, I listen to each instrument seperately (concentrate on a piece of guitar, or a bass line or the drums etc) or I just enjoy the whole song as it is.
I just think its a matter of personal choice finally, what you see in a song. Personally I listen to music to relax and I dont need another load of wisdom dumped on me through heavy lyrical content. I look forward to originality and musicianship than meaning. But of course people differ and like I said its a personal choice.
Out of the two songs you posted, I liked the Tool one better. I generally am not a fan of Industrial/Death metal type of music, where folks growl than sing. I need the melody
