So how do you find these? Are they visible on the map or do you need to scan or something to find them?

they are visible on the map but relics dont come out till later in the game

Metal mines and oil wells are not defended most of the times and they are visible across the map. No need for radar there. But relics will be released at the whim of the admin on each world. Once they are released you can see them in the Relics tab in your management screen.

keep in mind, a relic will make you a huge target if you choose to attempt to take one.

Also, you will only be able to get a relic with some help of your team mates (members of your alliance) so, don't attack it alone, or you will lose a ton of units

Relics are released at around tick 500+

they provide some score and i think radar range now too right?

The radar range is for u to see 200 squads of alliance A and another 300 squad of alliance B coming towards ur relics, which would be helpful.
