o_O soooo what's the big deal with em?
Infantry chassis get a bonus
Vehicle chassis get a bonus

Tanks get no bonus. You can't fit more bang for your buck per squad/ship. (10 versus 30 for infantry) and their weapon upgrades work the same way as the other chassis types.

Positives
You have to get tanks before you can get to the Nukes
Live longer

But even if they do live longer, you can get the same life out of infantry with enough armor in front.


So! I query. What's up with tanks? Why do all the big alliances I've met so far, almost exclusively use them (limited experience)

tanks get a bonus, it's just that devs forgot to put it up there. They are effective against infantry, and take the lowest damage from concussive, 50% or 25%. in early game, you either go early range or early tanks, because both of them give you an edge over the units of other people. Also, infantry and tanks are the most commonly used chassises (yeah, that can't be a word...) Tanks are effective against infantry and average against tanks. Vehicles get hurt a lot by infantry, a fairly common chassis, while infantry don't fare well against the tank chassis most big alliances use. So of the three chassises, tanks would do the best.

Edit:
Where does it say that tanks get a bonus to infantry? It doesn't mention it in the game and I checked the wiki and it doesn't mention it there either. Just states:

INFANTRY:
Infantry deal 25% bonus damage to vehicles with all weapons and do regular damage to other infantry & tanks.
VEHICLES
They deal 25% bonus damage to tanks with all weapons and deals regular damage to infantry and other vehicles.
TANKS
They deal normal damage with all weapons to all unit types.

To be honest, I have to disagree with Duo.

Choosing your alliance's chassis at the start of the era is a gamble, with each chassis having an even amount of pros and cons. I think phases of chassis go in and out of fashion; when I started playing everybody used infantry, now they are using tanks. Personally, I prefer infantry since no chassis counters them and they recover from spy attacks quickly.

so given the current 'trend' of tanks and infantry, wouldn't it be logical to use tanks because of outlined reasons...?

What outlined reasons? They are a little bit stronger, that is the only pro I see in using them while infantry have quite a lot of pros, I could list 3 off the top of my head.

That's what I was thinking.
Tanks are stronger but you can't fit MORE of them into a squad/ship than you can infantry.
Tanks may be tough against concussive damage but the other two units also have advantages to the other specific weapon types. So that's just a matter of flavor.
Tanks Take longer to train than anything else, so that's actually a point against them.

Daerduo says Tanks get a bonus against infantry but I can't find anywhere in the wiki or ingame where it says that, and Ferret actually says they don't get a bonus at all.

Taking that all together.

Infantry Pros
2 tick training time
25% bonus to all vehicles
Recover from spy attacks quickly

Vehicle Pros
4 tick training time
25% bonus to all tanks
More health per unit than Infantry

Tank Pros
More Health per unit than anything else

The game is balanced out so you can fit the same amount of firepower per squad regardless of unit. 30 infantry, 20 tanks, 10 infantry. Correct? So that means unit size is not a factor.

Anyone have anything to add? Because without proof that the Tanks have some advantage against infantry it looks like I would favor infantry as well.. :(

This is not correct, if the enemy is using tanks, explosives will be hit first. If the enemy is using vechs, beam will be hit first and if the enemy is using inf then the concussion will be hit first.
