Is it better to use damage units instead of range, ratio 10 armor to 20 damage?

I noticed using the battle simulator that although I start with a few casualities, the damage infantry when mass produced are highly more effective than range however I am still not sure.
Any experienced players with opinions?

damage units are more effective in even fights but range units are more effective at killing if you have a large advantage in terms of units. As you shouldn't be fighting even fights in BD if you can avoid it, most people build range. Which is better is a very long argument amongst BD players most of the time.

Damage makes effective spam units for taking ops and easy conquers, it should not be part of your actual army. Yes they do better in even battles but the simple fact is you shouldn't be fighting battles that last more than 2 rounds. For damage to even our produce range units in damage the battle must last at least 3 rounds and that is not a fight you want to be in.

So range is still prefered over damage?
Is this a glitch or something, I attacked an outpost with 5 infantry beam damage and 3 concussive vehicle armor but after the battle, my damage units were destroyed and not my armor...
Is that possible? I thought armors were attacked first

Units attack what they do the most damage to. So the other person simply had concussive units which do the most damage to inf therefore attacked your inf. Armor of another chassis will not cover when you are mixed chassis. Also, do not use mixed chassis.

That's because you had mixed chassis. Concussive units will attack infantry over vechs regardless to whether the units are armour or not. To defend infantry damage or range, use inft armour :) (Beam will attack vechs first, explosive will attack tanks first).
