Quote: From a religious catholic standpoint... Young Earth, or even Old Earth, creationism is not directly advocated (As far as I know) - by the Roman Catholic church. But yes, some people ARE young earth creationists and are Catholics, but not all who are Catholics are young earthers

it was the egg
the reason is down to the fact that genetic material does not change during an animal's life.
Therefore the first bird that evolved into what we would call a chicken, probably in prehistoric times, must have first existed as an embryo inside an egg.
The living organism inside the eggshell would have had the same DNA as the chicken it would develop into.

I was the first being in all creation, and through my infinite goodwill I've allowed the rest you to survive. This all your opinions are now null and void.

i don't want to argue but this is my opinion. around 300,000- 200,000 years ago, animals like the chicken lived. now what happened was was that they evolved (read up on darwins theory of evolution) into the chick that can lay eggs. now the chicken evolved that specific trait because it needed it to survive. any chicken that didn't lay eggs would usually die from not having the right characterists to survive. so it seems that the chicken came before the egg. but where did the animal the turned into the chicken come from? BACTERIA and other one-celular beings. they eventually evolved, forming more complex being until the chicken came along (lol). now where did the bacteria come from? well no one real knows for sure. somewhere in space.

It is a characteristic of being a "bird" that one lays eggs. Anything that does not lay eggs is not a bird. While, along the line, some organisms did evolve the laying of the egg (were it not evolved as a method of having young before live birth was) - you wouldn't just have a "chicken" without the ability of laying eggs, because it wouldn't be a bird (and ergo, not a chicken).

-Luna Lovegood Correct, but this isn't a geometric shape - this sort of causal relationship must have a beginning

egg
no one defined the egg belongs to a chicken.
ergo - dinosaur/fish eggs were around far longer before the first chicken.
