I think I read on the forum somewhere that if you build tanks it will take you out of protection mode. Is this true? Will building the heavy viechles factory take you out of protection mode also? Thanks for any response.

I'm 99% sure that it dosen't now. it were a feature earlier, but for my knowing they removed it

but my advice is anyway to leave protection unless you are relocating because it give you bonus

What kind of bonus? I know I will be conquered as soon as I leave protection. This does not appeal to me without being able to prepare..lol. any further thoughts on this would be appreciated.

your workers produce 50% extra metal and oil for 3 times as long as you got left of protection

if you are gone get conquered anyway you can might as well take the extra bonus to build up, just a thought tho, feel free to do it your way
