Can anybody tell me how to use gates, also can I use allied gates?

Alrite,
1. Select a squad. 2. Select what gate you would like the squad to visit. 3. The movement window will pop up(not sure how to name it) and right below the "launch" button there is a button, "jump to gate" and how much mana it takes. 4. Obviously click "Jump to gate"( you need to have the mana)
There are obviously rules: You have to be at a place with the gate, can be your colony or if in an alliance you can use any of gates in your alliance including the ones at other colonies even if you dont have a gate yourself.
The gate you are trying to jump from has to have 24 control ticks The gate you are trying to jump to has to have 24 control ticks. If the gate you are trying to jump to is jammed, you cannot jump your units to it. If the gate you are trying to jump from is jammed, you cannot jump your units from it.

Plus in Earth or Mars worlds, instead of mana, you use energy.

i have all satisfied, 24 clicks control over both gates. one gate has a squad docked. but i get the error "target is outside maximum travel range" is that right or am i missing something?

it is within the distance you squads could normally travel there should be a green ring
you can only gate as far as you could travel
