A dragon kills 10% of the units on a target outpost or colony, and damages the rest to 1HP. It also downgrades upgraded outposts (gates, radars, training bases & other silos) and if a colony is hit, 10% of the player's workers are eliminated.

I'm not particularly fond of nukes, so the only advice I could offer you is to use it in conjunction with spy attacks ('Lockdown' to trap the units, 'EMP Blast' to eliminate the chances of the target shooting your nuke down with an ion cannon, etc.) and following up quickly with squads (as units heal up 1 HP per tick, as well as to capitalize on the nuke effects.)

Strategically, if targeted on a colony or an outpost full of squads, your dragon/missile would either do a lot of damage to it or force other members of the same alliance (if the target is in one) to firestorm/ion the dragon/missile. To firestorm/ion a dragon/missile it will cost 200 mana/energy, much more than launching one, not to mention having 2 or more of them launched.

Not necessarily. You could land with a nuke on an outpost and kill units, the units will be at 1 HP. A Nuke's shortest eta is 6, so if you have to lockdown, lock them down when the nuke is 3 ticks away. Or else, the lockdown might end. Also, there is always the possibility that the enemy can ion your nuke. And whats that Emp Blast you talk about? Spy action on your enemy's colony? Wow youd have to spy 12 guys to not let them ion. But then again there is this possibility of boosting, so you cant really trap squads with a lockdown and a nuke without the enemy being able to do ANYTHING. I particularly like sending nukes to enemy colonies without units. Kills their workers and income.
