I sent some squads to attack someone with a crystal. He sent his squads back at me. What happens when they collide with each other?

Gender: male
They don't collide with each other. His squads go to your colony or outpost, and yours go to his colony. If he wins at your colony, you either get conquered by him (if you're unconquered) or nothing happens. If you win at his colony, then you get his crystal and/or conquer him.
