In mars i saw a wreckage and also saw that no other ships were heading there, so i sent a small squad to get it. what happens when i catch it?

You can get various things from it. About 100 energy, about 2000 gold, about 3000 oil, 80 - 100 bonus tokens, or about 100 workers. It changes everytime.

can you get a relic from it?

if not how do i get relics for EARTH and MARS?

you can not get a relic from a wreckage.

The way you get a relic is to defeat all the units on it (basically attack it and win)
usually you need a good team to take out the units on the relics.

Also the relics are the floating moving thingys they can go across water and stuff.

In the new client the admin releases relics in random parts of the map from tick 500-1000, winning a battle on one will transfer the ownership to you - just like a regular OP.
