First of all, hi

I'm new(obviously),and somewhat confused.
I'd like to get these outta the way,
1) When will new worlds be released? I created an account today and started on tick 320. I am planning to start from tick 1 since all of the newbie guides recommend that.

2) Are crystals free(meaning i don't have to spend any money of to obtain them)?

OK, now for these, please bear with me if these seem a bit obvious :-}

3)What is research? I can't seem to find it on the wiki. A lot of guides say that I have to get this research and that research blah-blah-blah..

4)Last one... Can I possibly hope to compete in this game without spending any money at all?

I guess that's all. It's not that i want to follow a set of instructions, i just want to get the basics and some questions outta the way before i play

Worlds are restarted either when the round reaches a high tick (3000 ticks for a 1 tick world, 3500 ticks for a 2 tick world) or when a single alliance manages to capture all 10 relics and hold them for 100 ticks.

?Yup, crystals are 100% free

By research they usually mean structures.

Yes, this is 110% possible, I've won a round and gotten rank #1 and I only used 1000 blue tokens. (Note that blues are free) Sure, spending money gives an advantage but it means NOTHING if you don't have skill.

1. They restart once an alliance has collected all 10 relics and held them for 100 ticks, or after what about 3000 ticks without this happening. (Correct me if I'm wrong more experienced players) I've never played through an entire era but that's what I hear.

2. Each colony only gets one crystal but yes it is free and you get it when you reach a power level of 20.

3. By research I think they mean, build. You have to develop various buildings and attachments to your colony/castle to increase its capabilities.

4. Totally. It might take a lot of playing to be good enough to play through and be #1 without money, but from what I understand a lot of people have done it, and some more than once. I'm playing without spending money. I WOULD be spending money if I could, hehe. But I'm reasonably competitive in all the worlds I play!

Yes, they restart when an alliance manages to grab all ten relics and hold on to them for 72 ticks (may have changed, or depends on Admins activity levels) or when the time limit expires (No one knows the time limit for sure, but it's generally accepted that it's between when Admins come out of hibernation and when they go get pizza.)

Yes, they are free, but getting one and managing to keep one is anything but.

Fancy word for structure levels, which grant you an ability to do or build something, or increased resource production.

Yes, it is. I often post high on the leaderboards, and I don't boost at all (save for blue tokens from voting and other miscellaneous activities)
