How long can I stay in protection? Aren't there certain structures once built, or certain number of units created that will deactivate my protection prematurely?

I want to get the best start before I let down my protection. What should I do to accomplish this?

You should have 100 ticks of protection as soon as you place your colony. And there is no structures or unit limits that would deactivate the protection, so build up. :)

actually if you build the structure that allow you tanks then it will cancel your protection

I believe,if you build ANY level 4 structure it will cancel the protection.
