The current campaign introduced a couple of months ago was a good idea. It allowed every player, spender or not, to obtain lots of silver and gold boxes. While this does allow everyone a chance to get mythical items easily, there are ways that I think it could be improved.
Introducing:
The Campaign QuestNew MissionsThe Campaign Quest completely changes the way that missions work. Instead of missions in campaign being quick and offering a small reward, the new missions in the Campaign Quest are huge. There are 3-5 different locations (an idea I took from an early version of the current campaign on the developer site, which had missions like 'Air Base' and 'Nuclear Reactor') with different difficulties:
Normal, Hard and Insane.
Missions are split up into
sections, with 3-4 segments per mission. Sections are separated by a gate that opens when all of the enemies in one section are defeated. Easier missions have less sections, harder ones have more.
EnemiesThe Campaign Quest would have much the same types of enemies as the current campaign. Most of the missions would be populated by buggies, tanks and mechs. However, the end of each mission would have a themed
boss. Bosses have huge amounts of health and powerful weapons. Beating each boss rewards the player with a
Medal of Completion for that mission and a silver/gold item box, also unlocking the next mission.
CheckpointsAs the new missions are so huge,
checkpoints are used to mark progress. Reviving your mech still costs battle credits, but you are revived at the last checkpoint you visited, and your can only revive 80% of your mech's health each time cumulatively (you revive 80% of the health you revived last time, so for example the second revival only restores 64% health). These may be spread out on harder missions to encourage the player not to use huge amounts of BCs to brute-force their way through missions.
Idea from RyuuseinoRockman: Checkpoints restore some of your mech's health.
RewardsA new campaign would, of course, need rewards. Loot and supply crates would be available in the new missions as in the current ones. However, in the last section of a mission would be a treasure stash. These are usable once the mission has ended, as with loot and credits from supply crates. They can contain valuable items such as silver/gold item boxes and mythical items. Bosses would also give valuable rewards.
I hope this idea is popular and makes it into the game. Vote and comment your feedback and any suggestions/improvements you would like the make. Of course this idea can be tweaked by the developers if it is chosen.
