I get that. But when you build a reputation, you kind of build an identity. Aeacus, imagine if someone used your name in the game and started using a bunch of exploits. Subsequently (in this hypothetical scenario), people start saying really nasty things about you on the forums and essentially call you a fraud and a cheater. Within a few hours, before you even see the thread, it gets closed by the admins because it is against the T of S Agreement. Meanwhile, the SM community has been bombarded with negative thoughts of your character, the admins rush to watch the replays and reprimand both accounts (this part is very highly hypothetical because I am not exactly sure what the admins see on their end) with a suspension or something of that sort. Evidently, you are left trying to contact the admins in an effort to remove any possible guilt you have from the situation, whilst having no way to retribute your now vilified account name.
Like I said in so many words previously, this scenario is highly unlikely, but as the possibility does exist (at least parts of it), I think it is important that we address what would happen in such a scenario so that there is some sort of contingency plan-thing in the event there are multiple accounts with the same or very similar names.
The case with SM isn't about players choosing the same name as their username, it's about the game's inability to show special characters/letters.
For example:
1st player chooses the name "ksi", 2nd player chooses the name "äksi", the game displays both player's names as "ksi" since letter "ä" isn't part of the English alphabet and game isn't programmed to display uncommon letters.
So, rather than persecute anyone for their username to be same with someone else's, we should turn our efforts towards game devs, so, that they would program special characters/letters into the game, thus showing the correct username and negating any ill effects the current system may present to us.
Also, in most online games, while creating new account and choosing an username, game displays error while your chosed username is already in use and game prompts that you'd choose a different username.
Is this system in place here? That i do not know of. If it isn't, it should be implemented within the next update.
As for your described situation with my username, that may very well happen.
Am i worried about it? No.
Since there's nothing that i can do to prevent this from happening (thus, no reason for me to worry about things/events that i can not control). "IF" i can control it and prevent it from happening, then again, there's no need for me to worry about things/events that i can prevent from happening.

Ive seen a guy name, "You will die!!" and he comes up as You will die in battle though. I've also come across a guy named "??? ?"
It seems that some of the special characters/letters are displayed in the rankings list but not during the battle. That explains why the name changes between rankings list and battle screen.
