Duo steps calmly through the forests. Brown boots crackle on the dry ground, and his handgun hangs loosely from clean, long fingers. The autumn breeze dances, sending dry leaves and twigs in short spells of dance. There are no birds chirping. There are only the aged trees, dead leaves, and the hunter, his sharp eyes scanning the forest for his prey.
Suddenly, there was a rustle, like the faraway sound of shuffling paper. Duo silently raised his handgun in a snap, but the source of the sound could not be found. Breathing in the cinnamon air as quietly as he could, he turned his toned upper body around, and saw, fifty meters away, a small bush. Its dark green leaves were moving ever so slightly, but unlike the rest of the forest, was slightly out of sync with the wind. Duo cocked his head, and watched the bush.
rustle...rustle..."ow!"
Boots pounded the ground, hard, and Duo sprinted. It was hardly 5 seconds before he dived straight into the bush for the sound, his arms protecting his head, and slammed straight into a bony, scrambling...*thing*. He grappled with it, as it frantically grabbed everything around it and kicked at the air in desperate attempts to get away. It bit Duos hand, and started to get away but Duo, unfazed, slammed down on it with his other hand, and picked it up, holding it by its head.
It was a miniature green goblin, barely 2 inches in height. It constantly scowled, and bared its baby teeth at Duo. The suspended green feet were meant for running. Duo narrowed his eyes. "What is your name?" "hssss...ronelm..." it rasped. Duo regarded the curiosity for a while, then shrugged. "You are not the one I am looking for, nor are you a threat to me. Now go, go and don't let me see your face again..." he winded his arm back, and chucked Ronelm forwards, watched the bony, delicate body hit the ground in front and scurry beneath the leaves.
"A hero, I see..."
Duo turned sharply to see a beautiful woman standing not 5 meters behind him. Her face was white, features undoubtedly Asian, and wearing a flowing pale blue gown that dragged on the dirt. Soft, smooth hands were held in front of her, offering a wrapped box.
Duo smiled. "Hello...what would your name be?"
The lady chuckled softly, and looked at Duo. "Oh, hero, take my present and perhaps you will understand."
Duo cocked his head, savoring the moment. He then held out his hand for the present...then leaped forward, grabbed the lady by the throat, and pinned the light body on the ground. Duo knocked the gift far away.
The lady's mouth was wide open. Duo grinned. "Oh, honey, don't act so shocked. This won't hurt a bit...", and with that, he stood up and shot her in the foot.
Suddenly, a cold wind blew through the forest. Leaves spiraled around the scene, and the air dampened. But Duo had only eyes for the lady on the ground. Her features contorted into one, furious expression, and she bared her teeth. But they were not her teeth. How could those rotten, brown blocks belong to one so beautiful? Duo grinned. "Come out, come out, whoever you are!" he laughed over the howling wind. A shadow swept over the fallen figure, and exploded in a dark light. Duo shielded his eyes, and squinted at the figure that just appeared before him.
"Hah! Found ya, teller! That guise ain't fooling me!" He shouted at the dirty brown figure before him. It was only around 1 meter 5, but immensely round with fat. Its round, bald head was covered with pimples, and scars riddled his face. His fat arms rippled in the ferocious wind, and it looked as if his stout legs were going to give way. The troll was armed with nothing, and his fat, greasy fingers were nothing more than short sausages. "Yeah, that's right, Teller. Finally, that nice image of yours is gone. The truth is ugly, but now...I know who challenged me and I know who I have killed." Duo spoke coolly. He raised his gun, and propped it on his elbow. "No hiding now..."
BAM BAM BAM. The three shots were lost in the chaotic wind. Leaves flew and dirt was raised and the mighty trees were swaying. Teller stumbled, and looked down at its bloody leg. Its mouth hung open, shocked at the pain. But then, it squinted its eyes at Duo, who was grinning and aiming his gun at it, and bellowed. "EURGH!!" Teller's bloodshot eyes widened in anger. "YOU..."
"Yeah, me. Now run." Duo, devoid of pity for this creature that declared war on him, stared down the pathetic, wounded figure. It turned in panic, stumbling, tripping, but limping away nonetheless. Duo allowed himself one second to smile. Victory is sweet, he thought. The ugly brown head was too big a target to miss.
"Hsss...my lord!"
Duo turned his head away to see Ronelm sprinting towards the wounded troll. Completely confused, he watched Ronelm scramble to Teller. "My lord, the hsss...new technology! The teleport!" Its green fingers held up a ring. "HEAR US AND SAVE US!"
Shocked that the little goblin was in possession so new, and even more so that it knew how to use it, Duo hastily took steady aim at the brown head. A shimmering curtain came down around the troll and the goblin, and Duo knew that he woul have to shoot now. The wind howled in his ear, and the forest shook with anger. That hated brown head turned, and Duo saw its face in all its ugliness. It seemed to be pleading...
The aim could not be off.
"NOOO!!!" screamed the troll.
Duo pulled the trigger.
Louder the wind, the click of an empty barrel resonated through the forest. Duo held the gun up. "What..?" he breathed. He looked at the troll and the goblin again.
But all he saw were settling leaves.
The chaos had subsided, and Duo stood there in a daze, not believing Teller's luck. But no matter...Teller was an easy kill for him. This would be a simple war. He walked over to the present box that he had knocked away from teller and slowly, painfully reloaded his gun. Furious with his misfortune earlier, Duo emptied a magazine into the box, and soon, he was clicking on nothing at a bullet ridden box. He kicked it open. It was a time bomb, which suddenly sent cold waves of nervousness through him. But he looked closer...he seemed to have shot the explosives open with his gun. Quickly, he pulled the explosive away from the detonator, and stripped the bomb down until what only remained was what he was looking for...a tiny proximity detector that could sense when people were near so that the bomb could explode. In theory, this sends a signal to Teller. He smiled a bit.
He reloaded his gun, and put the transmitter in his pocket. With a crisp walk, he started to leave the forest, and pulled out his cell. "Tenk...? I'm going to need you to run some scans for me..."
