I can't find the difference between apathy and nihilism. Specifically existential nihilism.

Don't nihilists and apathetic people both believe that there's no meaning to life, and act similarly?

Quote:
Nihilism is the philosophical doctrine suggesting the negation of one or more putatively meaningful aspects of life.

Negation is defined as the contradiction or denial of something: "there should be confirmation—or negation—of the findings".

Quote:
Apathy (also called impassivity or perfunctoriness) is a state of indifference, or the suppression of emotions such as concern, excitement, motivation and passion. An apathetic individual has an absence of interest in or concern about emotional, social, spiritual, philosophical and/or physical life.

Don't they both act apathetic and indifferent? Doesn't believing that there's no meaning to life or that morality doesn't exist (moral nihilism) entail depression? And who's happy being apathetic? You're not living life, but you're alive.

Can someone explain it to me?

Nihilists believe there is no meaning in life at all. Apathists believe there is no meaning in THEIR lives. /thread
