The third Kira could, and had really good motives to kill Light in the L saga! That was when Light had lost his memories, and that corporation holded the Death Note (forgot his name), but think about it: Light was helping L, yet Light's name and face were completely accesable for the public. And since no one knew Light was the first Kira, he wouldn't had had mercy on him.

And against Near, Light should had won! They actually forgot about something really important: Light possesed 4 Death Notes instead of 3. Yet that fourth one was completely forgotten... and even without that, he knew that his strategy had a flaw, and still used it? Even if he was confident, he is a perfectionist: that would be something he simply wouldn't let go of. It was as simple as leaving the fourth Death Note somewhere Mikami could had gotten it, completely leaving Near out of tricks to defend himself. So yea, I say the ending was BS. I still think it was good that Near won, and the story was mighty good, Im just a bit sour after using all of my weekend to seeing DN, then getting a wrap-up for an ending, which still isn't half bad. Btw L rules!!!

There were 2 from Ryuk and 2 from Rem. Although now Im confused... I do believe Light did some kind of trick with Ryuk's DN when they were gonna save Misa... sigh, Im gonna have 2 do it...
