This guide is a quick reference read for understanding the mere basics of the game for all new and newbish players. This guide would explain the mere basics of the game, quick start-ups, and moderate terminology explanation. The guide would follow an easy to navigate system with explanations of what you should expect to know after reading the guide.

Game Basics:
Battle dawn is a turn base strategy game. Each turn, depending on your server, runs on ticks for 30 or 60 minute intervals. The ticks control unit construction, along with squad movement, OP construction, and resource gathering. However, settlement building construction is not limited to ticks, rather then time itself (i.e. tier 1 buildings range from 30 seconds, to as long as 20+ minutes).

Battle dawn not only focuses on building construction (and unique placements of your OPs) but on battling between squads. Unit creation and battles depends on resources, and actual combat depends on unit combination. Resources, units and their properties will be explained later in this guide.

Resources:
  • Metal
  • Oil
  • Energy
  • Population
  • Crystals
Metal:
Metal is one of the more important resources in the game. Units, and structures depend heavily on metal rather then any of the other resources. Some units actually only cost metal. As metal is an important resource, you may want to consider getting more of it.

Methods of getting metal depend on numerous factors. One of them is your structures itself. The higher the tier your metal mines are at, the more metal resources you gain every tick. The more metal you have, the better structures you can build in less time, along with more, and stronger, units.

You can also gain more metal by having a larger population. Sitting tight is a good strategy to use when numerous players around you are too powerful to conquer. With this, you don't want to produce as many units (as that costs population) nor do you want to expand. You may either sit there and let your population increase, or you can upgrade your buildings. Remember, having every building is not necessary in the game. You can easily do without a tier 5 radar base if you are surrounded by allied players. Somewhat mooching off other player abilities (or even expanding your own radar bases).

As battles only lost you oil for transportation, you can also gain more metal by conquering players and taking their crystals, or even conquering other OPs (and even more metal from radar bases/nuke bases/warp gates/etc.) and then razing or downgrading them. This helps when you are in areas away from the main base/settlement of an alliance or player.

too be continued
