I weep for our world right now :(

The 'Mark 1' reactor facilities at Fukushima facility site were constructed in such a way that the spent fuel rods (which are still susceptible to combustion and extremely large radioactive release) were stored at the top floors of all of each reactor building. Therefore, the disasterous videos we all have no doubt seen of one of the reactor buildings exploding is in fact showing spent fuel rods being blown out into the open air. There are a few news sites, albeit not one centered in Japan or the USA, that do in fact confirm that spent fuel rods are indeed exposed to the open air. In one story, a spokesman for the Japanese goverment claimed that the exposed fuel rods in reactor number 1 were indeed exposed to the open air, overheating, and the coolant was evaporating through the breach faster than they could pump more in!

That means that all of that white steam rising up out of that site is likely highly radioactive, and will be caught in prevailing winds.

I hate to be the one to say it, but this is dire for all of us. WHen it comes to such highly toxic and radioactive releases into our atmosphere, we are all connected in some way, and to think that this will not affect any one of us, no matter where we live in the world is more unrealistic.

If you live in Alaska, Hawaii, or anywhere near the pacific ring in general, time to invest in some potassium iodide tablets. Better to have them and not need them...

As long as the rods are suppressed under water there will be no nuclear meltdown. Media is making it seem like there is a huge potential risk when really those 'blasts' are just releasing pressure which is actually good.

My prayers go to everyone in Japan. The radiation won't affect where I am, but I'm still devastated by what happened.

there is only 1 nuclear reactor left in japan if it goes there is total melt down which has vever happened before the last big 1 was half melt down so if it goes no1 knows what's going to happen it could either have a bunch of radiation in the air or what some people believe it will go down to the earth's core and many others

the neclear power plant was evacuated because being in their is a death trap with all of the radiation but 200 people stayed to try and do what they can to keep the last reactor from going even though they will die and they know it. these men will be forever known as heroes if they succeed or not for risking their own lives to save many others

Note from Moderators: Not a word of this post is actually true.

Okay, there's some good news for us in California. Because of the rain we're having the chances of us getting the radiation has fallen. Let's hope we can all pull through this. We just need to be strong!

No news of radioactive air here. Whew.

Please Japan...preserve like you've always done. You've been through worse!
