yeah get in an alliance or have your mentor find you one or a good sub to protect you as he teaches you. Jake got me in PURR and im doing just fine and getting stronger FAST.

When I started I didn't have a mentor and usually waited until the protection ran out but now that I have decent knowledge of the game and have played many times its usually a good thing to break protection early. The only reason I think not to break protection is if you are next to a big or enemy alliance and you are trying to relocate next to your alliance. This means that even though you lose your outpost there and such you are safe from being conqured and keep more recources then you might have got. Also, as soon as you relocate it will automatically break your protection so you should still have a good amount of ticks of recource boost. I myself once relocated at around 8 while in protection and still got 20 ticks of recource boost. Only reason I didnt do it sooner was I was offline at school and couldn't :x . Hope this helped. :mrgreen:
