For some odd reason, I've been getting a curiously high number of torsos and legs when I go to pick up item boxes.

This led to an idea.

About once a year - give or take - we could have a general melee using a special "top-down" control map.

Each contestant would be able to use as many mechs as they can 100% assemble (that is, all 21 item slots) before a specific cut-off.

Game play would be player vs. player tournament style. Each person will have two objectives: guard their base, and clear out the opposing player's base (each base being set up like what we have now on the main map).

Players will take turns maneuvering their respective mechs around the map, and when two individual units make contact with each other they'll do battle. The mission ends when all of one player's mechs have been destroyed and the reward containers have been collected from their bases.

How's this sound?

Sounds cool.

With the capturing and protecting of bases, it sounds like Backyard Monsters way back in the day :lol:

Might want to install more than one bracket to make things as fair as possible.

Like this.

Levels 1 - 10 map (mythicals approved)
Levels 1 - 10 map (no mythicals)
Levels 11 - 20 map (mythicals approved)
Levels 11 - 20 map (no mythicals)
Levels 21 - 30 map (mythicals approved)
Levels 21 - 30 map (no mythicals)

Notice that its sorted by level instead of rank, to stop level 30 pros from dropping to rank 20 right before it starts to ensure a win in a bracket map.

If a player has chosen to be in a (non mythical) bracket map and tries to make a mech with a mythical on it, they will confronted with a message like the following, and won't be able to use that mech until the mythical is removed.

"Mech has a Mythical Item! No Mythicals in this bracket map!"

This also stops cheating.

The top, say, 10 players in each bracket map get a reward for having the biggest base at the end of the tourney, size of reward varies on position.

If it ever gets put in, it probably should be a once per month thing. Not one per year! :)

Personally, I was thinking that we'd do something like this tournament style, with one player's stable of machines going against another player's stable of machines. The winner of that match would then go on to fight against the winner of another match, and so on until there's only one person left in each bracket.

The bases themselves would be standardized, and would use one of the generic designs from the current world map.


Also, each player would have a widget on the melee map noting how many mechs they have and how many mechs the other player has. Fair is fair.

Each mech vs. mech battle will have the standard XP and cash award for winning or losing. In addition, the winning player will be awarded with the treasure boxes from both bases, the contents of the treasure boxes being random draws akin to how things operate in the world map.
